Comments:Upcoming Events

Ok Everyone,

lets start a discussion about our LinuxTag appearance.

Malte's Idea: Appearance

             * (The Way I interpret it) We Paint a Topicmap onto the Booth which has variable Spots (Blackboards represent a still undefined topic/area of the map.)

The Map is either well prepared with fixed content about the deepamehta world as a static eyecatcher but with a blackboard at one side crossing through the map.

Alternatively just the structure of the map is static with great round topics, each filled with it`s own blackboard, to let the content be developed while brainstorming and talking. I appreciate the idea of showing more the flow than the thing but how, except being there and provide first hand experience to the attracted audience? since animated stuff needs time to 'understand' and i feel somehow a beamer wouldn`t be the right approach. i still see a static picture gets the attention and maybe will lead the audience into our flow of the booth. some other suggestions for visualizing the flow ? visualizing borderless, beyond visible margins are good hints already, thanks. (*)

--- Please, Malte fill in your wishlist for needed stuff here:
---- Thanks, yeah i will do this later, first i have to phone with Wolfgang to find out what is possible and whats not

Thilo's s Idea: Content

I think our Target-Group on the LinuxTag should be Businessmen/women in Companies which want to cheapen/improve their Workflow with OpenSoftware. I assume that such people know about the Semantic-Web-Hype (and maybe a little about Theseus and so on) and follow assosiations in the following order: Semantic-Web? -- A thing everybody talks about -- It must be great -- Yeah, a lot of money is spent for that purpose -- If I could start the Semantic-Web would be great -- Yeah, If they try so hard it must be very rewarding -- ...(You get my point)

  • Great that you concretely envisage the target audience. But the businesspeople with their workflows in mind would ponder to have new functionalities developed, wouldn't they? And what about the functionality already available, such as a thinking tool that is superior to most concept mapping tools? In this context, a painted map on the wall bears the danger of looking too static, too much focussed on an outcome rather than on the process, too much thing rather than flow. Of course, it's a nice eyecatcher, but it shouldn't obscure the (IMO) greatest strengths of the software. At least the map should show that it may be borderless and extends beyond the visible margins. (Matthias)
  • What would be useful, IMO, is more than the 2 folding chairs, even if they cost 8 euros. I think much of the unique selling points cannot really be demonstrated but must be experienced. For instance, selecting an icon and making its description visible in the propety panel (without flow-disrupting popups like the competition products do). And the tester has to sit down, because drawing associations needs both hands (alt + mouse). Just my 2 eurocents, x28de 10-May-2008 12:36 CEST
    • 2 more chairs, this depends on the space but if we have 6 sqm we will get 2 additionally to sit down relaxed. the linuxtag orga team will provide us 2 'high chairs' and a table to lean on.

If business man will be our target-group we should focus on the aspects which are already available and developed, i agree on this topic with matthias. Meaningful considerations of what could be done with that amount of developing efforts will also be part of every exchange with interested business man and i don`t want to bother business man with philosophical issues like: what would the semantic web look like within deepamehta nor i don`t know what you mean with semantic-web? (**) this sounds more like an ice cream seller to me. even when the sun is shining constantly at these days :). if you want to talk about the semantic web with business man let`s show concrete examples, maybe your thoughts will be pushed further if you take a short look at the map which jörg and i did in one of the last blog entries.. Are you thinking of some scenarios in that direction? (I don't find it)

At this upcoming event, we can show what we have already and i think we should focus on motivating developers and users to spend some hours a week in their spare time and give these interested people a solid impression of us and an outlook for what we are heading for and when this and that is going to happen. (Malte)

So, we definetely need some PC's with working deepamehta installed and some Info to explore in the corporate memory.

  • I think everyone of us has a running deepamehta installation with interesting content or additional demo scenarios, we also have collected some interesting maps yet. The two or three persons who can be at the booth at the same time, can provide first hand experience for everyone and develop possible application scenarios in brainstorming mode but with their own laptop, i guess. (Malte)
  • x28de 11-May-2008 23:54 CEST For the content, I heard the idea of a (fixed) map where, IMO, the visitor could become involved by positioning himself and his own relationships or additions to the items shown. This could also be done by a fictitious visitor in the screencast, and the screencast could be looping for the visitors not yet involved in a conversation. At the wall, in contrast, interactivity would only give a misleading impression.

Some of the Screencasting will be finished till 28th. (Thilo)

  • Sounds great, together we can do it! Lets talk about that on the Tutorials Page together.

Malte, we need the following schedule till the event, since you introduced us with some already past events.

  • all deadlines of interest already passed by...
    • anyway, some more visual ideas for our appereance?
    • providing interesting maps for short lessons, like the map about the history of human computer interface

(*) I think both versions have their pros and cons so why don't use both, didn't we have 2 Panels?

(**) That's exactly the Point, nobody knows what the semantic-web is, but everybody talks about it. So my idea was to explain what semantic-web is in the static part of the Map.
